Soldiers, families and civilians now have a new dining option on post, as Grill ’77 opens its doors this month. The restaurant, located inside Desert Lanes Bowling Center, blends modern American food with a nod to the post’s storied past. Assistant Manager, Melanie Malave, has been with Desert Lanes for over 20 years and monitored all renovations from demolition to grand opening. “We were long overdue for an upgrade, and now we’ve finally brought our sweet diner into the 2000’s.”

While the restaurant’s name pays homage to the installation’s founding year, 1877, its design and menu reflect a decidedly contemporary approach. The Grill features a bright, open interior with clean lines, industrial modern accents and comfortable seating. “By taking down the middle wall, the space feels open, inviting, and warm,” says Malave. “We can see our guests, interact with them and feel connected again.” Subtle historical elements serve as stylish reminders of the installation’s long legacy without disrupting the restaurant’s modern aesthetic.  

The menu offers elevated takes on favorites, including smashburgers, traditional wings, and the classic Jeannie’s Reuben. Guests will also find new options in the Birria Egg Rolls, Street Dog and Smash Patty Melt.

Installation leaders say Grill’77 supports ongoing efforts to expand quality-of-life amenities for Soldiers, families, and civilians. “The staff and I are finding new and better ways to work and be more efficient every day, getting back into the groove of our own space again,” states Malave. “We are confident we will continue to keep making it better and better.”
