2026 Army Outdoor Recreation Hiking and Biking Challenge

Family and MWR Outdoor Recreation is calling all hiking and bicycling enthusiasts to join the 2026 Army Outdoor Recreation Hiking and Biking Challenge. Can you hike or ride, 250km, 500 km or 1000km (621 miles) over 5 months? Hike or ride outdoors on roads & trails starting May 1 through September 30. The challenge is open to all authorized FMWR patrons. The entry fee is $50 per individual or $50 per family. All participants will receive a commemorative Hiking or Biking jersey! One jersey per individual or family registration; additional jerseys available for purchase. Each participant is responsible for their own distance tracking and record keeping. When you have conquered the goals of 250km, 500 km and 1000 km, report your results back to Outdoor Recreation. Earn interlocking challenge coins as you complete the challenge goals for Biking. One coin per individual or family registration. Earn commemorative patches as you complete the challenge goals for Hiking. One patch per individual or family registration. Families are encouraged to hike and or ride together and combine their miles toward the collective goal. For more information or to register, call MWR Outdoor Recreation at (520) 533-6707.

The Grand Prize
Two (2) lucky participants will win a voucher for three free nights at an Armed Forces Recreation Center (AFRC) in either Sŏl, Korea, or Garmisch, Germany!

Please note: The prize covers the cost of lodging only. Airfare, meals, or other expenses is not included.

How to Win
It’s simple: the more you move, the better your chances! We will be crowning two winners at the end of the challenge:
1.  Top Hiker: The individual who logs the most verified hiking miles.
2.  Top Cyclist: The individual who logs the most verified cycling miles.

This includes all miles tracked throughout the entire challenge period, even those that go above and beyond the original challenge mileage goals. Every single mile counts!

Cost

The entry fee is $50 per individual or $50 per family.
